To use the service, various registration options are available, which are often associated with sending activation data by mail. To confirm their identity during registration, users have various options available. These previously included identification via postal delivery or, alternatively, registration with the electronic ID card. New users only need a smartphone and their ID card or residence permit for the process. In the Nect Ident process, citizens are automatically guided through a secure and simple process, tailored to their identification document. An ID card from an EU member state can, among other things, be used via the ePass function, while a German ID card without an activated online ID function can be visually checked. For the approximately ten million existing users of the Nect Wallet, registration with &#8216;Mein ELSTER&#8217; is even simpler, as they can reuse their already stored identity within seconds via facial recognition.
