The identification process with Nect Robo-Ident technology includes a video recording of an ID document as well as the recording of a selfie video. The now-patented feature uses artifacts, including image and sound, that can be generated by a smartphone’s vibration module. This “digital watermark” ensures that it is an original recording in real time. Since the timing and intensity of the vibration are randomly selected by the Nect system, identification attempts with pre-recorded videos fail with this technology. The patented technology thus significantly complicates forgery and fraud attempts during identity verification with Nect Selfie-Ident.
Benny Bennet Jürgens: “The patenting of our solution for real-time verification is confirmation for us that we are taking a step forward with Robo-Ident technology and not just automating the human process. A high security level paired with ease of use is the driving factor of our research.”
The patent, filed in 2018, shows that high security does not have to come at the expense of user-friendliness. Without any action on the part of the user, the invention by Nect CEO Benny Bennet Jürgens and Fabian Kohn, Head of Technology at Nect, can increase the security of the identity verification process.
The present innovation has the potential to replace the well-known SMS-TAN for real-time verification of identification.
In addition to the now-patented invention, Nect is currently awaiting the patenting of two further security features.
With Nect Selfie-Ident, companies can offer their customers secure and at the same time simple access to their services − 24 hours a day and generally with ID documents from almost all countries in the world. Many companies in regulated industries are already using the solution based on Nect Robo-Ident technology for the fast, simple, and secure identification of their customers. Nect’s AI-based technology was first used in 2018 at R+V Versicherung. In the meantime, numerous other well-known insurance companies belong to the customer base, such as Techniker, Barmer, and WGV Versicherung. In addition, organizations, companies, and institutions from other sectors have also opted for the powerful and secure solution, such as Telekom Deutschland, the Federal Employment Agency, and the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank.
In total, around 4 million existing users in Germany have now identified themselves online in just a few seconds using the Nect app. Based on the ranking in the Play and App Store, the Nect app has been among the top 100 apps in Germany for months.
