Effective immediately, individuals can register with the ‘Mein ELSTER’ online tax office using Nect GmbH’s online identification solution. With its service, ELSTER enables citizens to efficiently and highly securely transmit all tax data electronically as part of their annual tax return. To use the service, various registration options are available, which are often associated with sending activation data by mail. With the Nect Wallet, this registration process is now also offered fully digitally for everyone, making it significantly easier and faster.
More than 120 million tax returns and tax registrations are submitted electronically each year. To confirm their identity during registration, users have various options available. These previously included identification via postal delivery or, alternatively, registration with the electronic ID card. With the integration of Nect, users can now also opt for quick registration via the Nect Wallet, instead of choosing the classic registration option with postal delivery.
Nect enables individuals to perform digital identification, through which the entire registration process is completed in just a few minutes. New users only need a smartphone and their ID card or residence permit for the process. In the Nect Ident process, citizens are automatically guided through a secure and simple process, tailored to their identification document. An ID card from an EU member state can, among other things, be used via the ePass function, while a German ID card without an activated online ID function can be visually checked. For the approximately ten million existing users of the Nect Wallet, registration with ‘Mein ELSTER’ is even simpler, as they can reuse their already stored identity within seconds via facial recognition. Subsequent login to the portal is done via the ElsterSecure app.
Focus on reducing bureaucratic hurdles
The intuitive operation of the Nect Wallet app ensures easy handling: Based on the identification document used, the app automatically selects the appropriate identification method for users, thus ensuring the best possible user experience for a successful identification process.
With the use of the Nect Wallet, ELSTER aims to simplify its processes and reduce bureaucratic hurdles, thereby facilitating access to digital tax returns for more people. By offering various identification methods in the Nect Wallet and supporting a large number of readable, international identification documents, the procedure creates a user-friendly alternative to traditional registration options for many citizens.
Bavaria’s Minister of Finance and Home Affairs Albert Füracker: “Fast, simple, and paperless – effective immediately, citizens can complete their registration with the ‘Mein ELSTER’ online tax office fully digitally! With the help of the new Nect-Wallet online identification procedure, the registration process is completed within a few minutes. This means that tax returns via ‘Mein ELSTER’ are now 100 percent digital – from registration to the tax assessment notice! A heartfelt thank you at this point to Nect GmbH for their support in the rapid implementation.”
Benny Bennet Jürgens, Founder and CEO of Nect: “We are very pleased about this significant collaboration. ELSTER’s decision to integrate the Nect Wallet marks an important step in the digitalization of public administration and sets an example for further use cases.”
