Full flexibility: Nect Ident can be used for registration with health insurance companies and creates alternatives for the telematics infrastructure

  • No concerns regarding the use of fully automated video identification in the online branch offices (OGS) of health insurance companies
  • Flexible processes through the integration of eID and ePass
  • Nect CEO Benny Jürgens: Using our interface enables flexibility, security, and maximum user-friendliness for health insurance companies
Hamburg, December 1, 2022 Following the ban on video ident procedures in the telematics infrastructure by Gematik, the Hamburg-based Nect GmbH is offering various alternative procedures via an interface with its identification solution Nect Ident. In addition, it has now been confirmed that Nect’s well-known procedure based on biometric technology can once again be used for digital registration at the online branch offices (OGS) of all German health insurance companies. This applies to use via web browser, app, or for the registration of a new mobile phone.
This means that nothing stands in the way of using highly secure and user-friendly identification procedures in the healthcare sector. The first health insurance companies will reactivate the use of the technology in their online branch offices before the end of this year. Most recently, health insurance companies had to resort to on-site identification or Post-Ident procedures for the registration of their customers in the OGS, which involved a high level of effort for the insured.
In addition, the use of the eID and ePass function is recommended as an additional identification option. Nect already offers this function today as part of Nect Ident and has already been able to activate it at several health insurance companies as an alternative procedure for processes in the telematics infrastructure, for example the registration of the electronic patient record (ePA). This gives health insurance companies the necessary flexibility at all times to react to the requirements of the various authorities. A one-time connection (if not already done) to the Nect Ident interface is sufficient. Within the Nect Ident procedure, the user is always automatically guided to the appropriate and regulatorily permissible ident process.
Nect CEO Benny Bennet Jürgens explains: “Our Nect Ident helps health insurance companies to provide their customers with user-friendly and simple online identification. With the integration of eID and ePass, we also have two highly secure alternatives on offer. However, the eID is currently not sufficiently widespread and can only be used by a very limited group of people. With our automated video ident procedure, millions of insured persons can now register easily again, at least in the online branch offices, and experience true participation in the digitalization of the healthcare system.”
Jürgens continues: “We are constantly equipping our products with new security features. With our ‘Put Your Face Here’ feature, for example, we offer eIDAS-certified technology to protect video recordings of an ID card against manipulation. This ‘liveness check’ brings the security level for automated, optical identification procedures to a new level. Furthermore, our team was able to develop a so-called ‘Presentation Attack Detection’ and integrate it into our system. This allows us to achieve a particularly high level of protection against known attacks.”
With what are now four ident methods within Nect Ident, the Hamburg-based company thus offers identification options for all processes in the healthcare sector and guarantees security at the state of the art.
The current regulations regarding the ban on video ident procedures in the telematics infrastructure continue to apply, which is why the user is automatically and exclusively guided into the eID process within Nect Ident for registration, e.g., for an ePA.
The user is automatically guided to the ident process that is right for them based on their document, nationality, and regulatory requirements. In doing so, Nect always pays attention to maximum user-friendliness under the given conditions. Should further secure and user-friendly procedures come onto the market in the future, Nect Ident customers can obtain these automatically via the existing interface – and usually without having to make their own adjustments.

About Nect

Nect GmbH is a multi-award-winning IT company based in Hamburg. Founded in 2017 by Benny Bennet Jürgens and Carlo Ulbrich, Nect stands for the implementation of fully automated trust services with highly advanced technology. The technology developed and patented by Nect was first used in 2018 in the form of Nect Ident, an AI-based online identification via app, at R+V Versicherung. In the meantime, other well-known companies, including ADAC, BARMER, and Telekom Deutschland, are part of the customer base. In addition to Nect Ident, which can be used via an automated process, eID, or ePass, the company offers Nect Sign, a solution for qualified electronic signatures (QES), as well as the Nect Wallet, which functions as a digital ID and enables the reuse of digital identity in just a few seconds.Data security and data protection are the focus of Nect solutions. This is ensured both by the complete in-house development of the software components and the use of data centers in Germany with an extraordinarily high security level and the avoidance of cloud solutions.
