Nect’s innovative Selfie-Ident app has been used for activation processes since 2018, for example for registering in a customer portal or for age verification. The Selfie-Ident app uses the Robo-Ident technology developed specifically in Hamburg for this purpose. The process includes a video recording of an ID document as well as a selfie video. Nect’s biometric technology, which is used here, has already proven itself in over three million transactions. In an automated process supported by artificial intelligence, the document and the person from the selfie video are compared, and the authenticity of the recordings and the ID document is verified.
The process is completed after about two minutes and the identity is confirmed, for example to the health insurance provider. The customer receives immediate access, and at the same time, the ID document is digitized in the form of the Nect ID, making the Nect app a digital, multifunctional ID.
The Nect Selfie-Ident app is already used up to 20,000 times a day. By expanding the Nect app, users can now confirm their identity to their health insurance provider, for example, and create their Nect ID at the same time. In the future, the user can regularly perform further activations with the same health insurance provider or another company simply by taking a new selfie video. This means that not only do users benefit from a further increase in user-friendliness, but also companies, which can offer their customers even easier access. For companies, the connection continues to be via the familiar Selfie-Ident interface.
Due to its proprietary biometric technology, Nect ID differs from comparable smartphone IDs in two significant ways, which use the smartphone’s Face ID or Touch ID to verify a digital, reusable identity.
Instead of device authentication, as is common with Face ID and Touch ID, Nect always offers 1:1 person authentication, even on shared devices. On a family tablet, for example, Face ID usually does not distinguish between individuals – Nect ID, on the other hand, is always person-specific, even on shared devices.
Furthermore, Nect ID can be used on almost all common smartphones and tablets, enabling the vast majority of the population to create a digital ID quickly and easily. Standard hardware is sufficient for use.
In addition to the German ID card, Nect technology can process almost all passports worldwide. Nect ID can therefore also be set up without the eID function. This is not only an advantage for all Germans who have forgotten their PIN or do not have it at hand, but also for the approximately 20 to 30 percent of health insurance members who only possess a foreign or German passport.
Benny Bennet Jürgens, CEO and founder of Nect, emphasizes: “Our Robo-Ident technology has already proven its speed and security in over three million transactions and impresses with 4.9 out of 5.0 stars in the App Store. With Nect ID, we are reaching a new level of convenience for our users. It is the fastest way of identity verification we have seen in the Nect app so far. Now is the right time to make Nect ID the most widely used solution for digital activation processes.”
The Nect app is already in use by numerous well-known customers. First deployed at R+V Versicherung in 2018, the Hamburg-based company’s customer base now includes Telekom Deutschland GmbH, BARMER, the Federal Employment Agency, and the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB). With these and other partners from a wide range of industries, Nect forms an extensive and diverse network whose online services can be used with Nect ID at any time. Nect ID can be deployed for existing customers without further integration effort and is already potentially available to around 60 million users across Nect’s entire customer base.
In addition to Nect Selfie-Ident, Nect’s core product, the portfolio is currently being expanded to include other self-service products, such as the eSignature (QES). Furthermore, it will also be possible to use the eID function of the new German ID card with the Nect app in the near future.
