Nect supports companies and authorities with AI-based solutions during the coronavirus pandemic

220,000 new users per month, 2 million app downloads in the last 12 months, and access for over 60 million people in Germany: Nect continues to establish itself in the market with its fully automated online identification solution and supports government institutions with Robo-Ident technology.

Hamburg, November 5, 2020 Nect GmbH, the Hamburg-based IT company for AI-based trust services, is on the rise: At a time when digitalization plays a greater role than ever before, Nect is experiencing remarkable growth and positioning itself in e-government with its fully automated remote identification.

During the second wave of coronavirus, the flexibly scalable and quickly implementable technology is once again gaining particular importance for companies, authorities, and users: The coronavirus pandemic took everyone by surprise—both personally and professionally. Many companies and self-employed individuals have struggled and continue to struggle with revenue losses. The consequence: layoffs, short-time work, and unemployment. Government support is more important than ever during this time to sustain livelihoods. Already at the beginning of the first coronavirus wave, Nect’s Selfie-Ident proved to be the best solution for user-friendly and secure identification. Examples include collaboration with the Federal Employment Agency and the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB).

Up to 3,500 identifications per hour for the Federal Employment Agency

The Federal Employment Agency had to handle an exceptionally high number of new registrations as a result of numerous layoffs. At the same time, in-person visits to offices were to be reduced as much as possible to contain COVID-19. A digital solution for identifying applicants was therefore the goal. This solution not only had to be quickly implementable and meet high security requirements to prevent fraud attempts, which can increase during such crises, but also had to handle an enormously high number of identifications. Why the decision fell on Nect and not, for example, on the electronic function of the German ID card was explained by Markus Schmitz, CIO of the Federal Employment Agency, in an interview with Tagesspiegel Background: “The e-ID card has hardly any users and is very cumbersome to use. For the coronavirus crisis, we needed a solution that works quickly and intuitively.” (Source)

"Overnight" implementation at IFB Hamburg

IFB Hamburg also chose Nect GmbH’s Selfie-Ident for identifying applicants at the beginning of the crisis. Emergency aid for self-employed individuals had to be implemented as quickly as possible, so the technology was implemented within one day. The quick action and immediate implementation prevented misuse and saved taxpayer money.

The light lockdown that came into effect on November 2, 2020, is another dark chapter in the coronavirus pandemic. Already during the first coronavirus wave, Nect GmbH proved that it is a reliable partner in uncertain times. Regulated companies and authorities can rely on Nect’s Selfie-Ident to offer their customers a digital alternative to on-site service. The Robo-Ident technology used can be adapted to any need and easily keeps pace with the speed of change.
