Proven Uniqueness

Nect’s developments are based on sound scientific and technical expertise and pursue innovative solutions to problems. To date, three patents have been filed and granted. They encompass technological functions that significantly increase the security of the identification process—specifically regarding the validation of the user’s liveness and the real-time nature of the recording.

EP3575994B1 - "Real-time Check"

The patent includes an innovative function of Nect technology to ensure the recording time of a video. The function utilizes artifacts in image and sound that can be generated by a smartphone’s vibration module. This “digital watermark” ensures that it is an original real-time recording. Since the timing and intensity of the vibration are randomly selected by the system, identification attempts with pre-recorded videos are detected as faulty. This further complicates forgery and fraud attempts during identity verification with Nect.

EP3575993A1 - "Liveness Check"

This patent certifies the protection of the identification process with recording of the identity document as well as the selfie video including voice recognition through watermarking. The watermark is ensured, among other things, by high-frequency tones above and/or below the audible range during the recordings as well as the prompt to move the smartphone. This creates a particularly high level of security for customers and users.

EP4113334A1 - "Put Your Face Here"

This patent application encompasses the “Put Your Face Here” function. The patent application was published in January 2023. The function is currently under examination. “Put Your Face Here” involves displaying a frame on the user’s mobile device screen. The user is prompted to place the image of their identity document within this frame. After doing so, the frame moves to another location on the screen. The user must then place their image within it again. This process can be repeated several times. What is the purpose of this function? “Put Your Face Here” covers the regulatory step in which the user is prompted to perform certain movements or actions with the identity document. “Put Your Face Here” is therefore an additional feature of the liveness check and simultaneously serves as protection against document manipulation. The randomly selected movement sequences make fraud attempts even more difficult. This feature contributes to meeting the enhanced criteria of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), as it adequately replaces the traditional conversation with a call service agent.
